Closure of Opera Ireland .

 In 2009/10, as a part of a Government plan to establish Ireland's first National Opera Company in 2011, Opera Ireland agreed to  voluntarily wind down its opera producing organisation to enable the establishment of the new National Company. 

In agreement with its funders, the final Opera Ireland production (Tosca) was given in  November 2010 and the process of company closure undertaken shortly thereafter , ending  almost seventy years of history as the main provider of professional grand opera in Ireland's capital city. The company closure came at at the end of a very successful 2010 during which record attendances and a substantial financial surplus were achieved.
