Opera Irelands stars Yunah Lee, Flavio Oliver & Louise Walsh entertained the shoppers of Dundrum Town Centre on Wednesday 3rd September at the launch of the MET HD Screenings.
In 2006, a performance of Mozart's ‘The Magic Flute' was relayed live by satellite, in full audiovisual high definition, from the stage of the Metropolitan Opera in New York to cinemas across America. It was a huge hit and the entire Met season can now be seen live on screens around the world, drawing large new audiences to opera.
Opera Ireland, in association with RTÉ Lyric Fm (who will also simulcast the performances on radio), is proud to present this unique operatic and entertainment experience for the first time in Ireland. With many of the world's greatest opera stars, lavish and stylish productions, and broadcast production values to match, this promises to be a very exciting addition to operatic life and to draw new audiences to opera in Ireland.
Opening this Autumn exclusively in the ‘Movies@' chain in Dundrum, Swords and Dungarvan, it will be available in other cinemas throughout Ireland from January '09.
